Ed Paolantonio is a former student of Lennie Tristano (New York). He has written a book that provides a well-rounded approach to jazz piano improvisation based on his years with Lennie. I am one of Ed's students and having purchased most of the recognised jazz piano books on the Internet I can highly recommend this book. It is only for serious jazz piano students however. There are many facets to learning jazz. This book covers most of them. Ed also has CDs that he has recorded which demonstrates the level that can be attained when this approach is adopted seriously.
